dawntalking.jpgMaine's environment, clean air, scenic vistas and pristine waters are perhaps its greatest asset, aside from its people. It is the combination of these essential, never to be duplicated natural factors that help define Maine's brand. It is because of this "natural brand" that tourism is essential to Maine's vitality. It's what sets LL Bean apart from other great retailers and makes Cabella want to position itself in Maine.

Paying tribute to Maine's environment is not enough. A brand that has become an economic vitality attracting visitors who want to experience their slice of Maine, it must also be protected for future generations. I was proud to sponsor LD-340 that will continue the tradition of protecting Maine's shore lands and water bodies by also protecting its most vulnerable treed canopies.

I was pleased to support low-interest loan programs for geothermal heating options to encourage renewable energy use and reduce energy costs. I also supported a more efficient process for wind turbine approvals and backed efforts to reduce excessive carbon emissions in Maine. Finally, I voted to support the Maine for Land Future Bonding which passed overwhelmingly by Maine residents.
