Leadership Maine graduates Dawn Hill as sole State Legislator in its Omicron class 2008. Dawn is happy to have survived swinging from trees during the ropes training course.
Now in its 15th year, Leadership Maine offers [the Omicron Class] a unique statewide learning opportunity, designed to build a broader pool of talented leaders in Maine to shape our State's future. The year-long experiential program covered in 12 days (plus a half-day orientation) provides 40 - 45 established leaders with a statewide perspective of the economy, information to meet the challenges of tomorrow, and encourages the building of networks to spark collaborative change in Maine.
Each year Leadership Maine seeks 40-45 people who have demonstrated the following three behaviors:
- demonstrated personal concern about the future economic health and quality of life in Maine, and a commitment to taking action
- demonstrated capacity to lead at the statewide level
- a record of accomplishment within their own organizations or communities
Leadership Maine [a program of the Maine Development Foundation] was established in 1993 with the purpose of supporting a diverse group of leaders, now over 600 strong, in taking actions to affect change in Maine. Unlike community-based leadership programs, Leadership Maine is statewide in scope and focuses on issues rather than skill development. the program also incorporates the Outward Bound Professional Program as a team building exercise.
